If you have ever searched for the best resorts in Savusavu or wondered whether Koro Sun Resort is worth it for a family trip to Fiji, this guide will help you decide. Our family of five spent four days at this beautiful property on Vanua Levu, and we experienced everything from private villas to cultural activities, rainforest spa treatments, lagoon adventures and daily Fijian hospitality.

This is our honest review of Koro Sun Resort in Fiji, written to help travelers who want a true cultural experience mixed with family friendly activities and a peaceful tropical setting.

Where Is Koro Sun Resort Located

Koro Sun Resort is located near the town of Savusavu on Vanua Levu, which is Fiji’s second largest island. You will fly into Nadi International Airport, then take a short domestic flight to Savusavu. The arrival process is simple and the views from the plane are stunning.

We arrived after a long layover in Nadi. Jake and Mat used the time to surf Cloudbreak, which ended with a reef cut and a bruised ego, but the girls and I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at the DoubleTree before our connection. Once we landed in Savusavu, the resort picked us up and welcomed us with a traditional Fijian song. It immediately set the tone for the rest of our stay.

Our Room at Koro Sun: Ocean View Villa 16 (Two Bedroom Bure with Pool)

For families searching for the best villas in Savusavu, the Two Bedroom Bure is an ideal choice. Our villa included:

  • Two king beds

  • A daybed

  • Two bathrooms, including an outdoor stone shower

  • A kitchenette and dining area

  • A private plunge pool

  • A large terrace with hammocks

  • Air conditioning and ceiling fans

This villa is spacious and private, perfect for a family looking for comfort and room to relax. Even during rainy days, we enjoyed the pool, the outdoor shower and the quiet garden setting.

Edgewater Bure Review: Ideal for Couples

We also toured one of the Edgewater Bures, which sit along the lagoon and extend partially over the water. These are designed for couples who want a romantic Fiji experience without the high prices of Bora Bora or Tahiti style overwater bungalows.

Each Edgewater Bure includes:

  • A king bed

  • Indoor and outdoor showers

  • His and hers vanities

  • A private deck that sits above the blue lagoon

  • A ladder that allows you to enter the water directly

  • Air conditioning and ceiling fans

These are perfect for honeymooners or couples who prefer privacy and direct ocean access.

Dining at Koro Sun Resort

Breakfast is served at Palm Grove Restaurant, which offers a small buffet of fruits, pastries and cereal, as well as a full menu of made to order eggs, pancakes and French toast.

For lunch and dinner you can choose:

  • Sandbar for casual dining with burgers, pizza and relaxed seating by the water

  • Palm Grove for traditional meals and themed nights

  • Latitude 17 which opens on select evenings and sometimes features live music

A helpful tip is to be very clear about how you want your meal prepared. Fijian cuisine often includes mayonnaise or added toppings even when not listed on the menu. Once we clarified our preferences, everything came out exactly how we wanted.

Overall, the food at Koro Sun was fresh, flavorful and served quickly.

Activities and Adventures at Koro Sun Resort

Koro Sun offers a wide variety of activities, which makes it ideal for families and adventure travelers. Even though we visited during rainy season, we never ran out of things to do.

Here are the activities we experienced:

  • Paddleboarding and kayaking in the lagoon

  • A paddle trip to Bat Island to see fruit bats

  • Fishing with the resort guides

  • Spearfishing for the first time

  • Hand line fishing along the breakwall

  • Snorkeling with complimentary equipment

  • Waterfall tour with a village visit and kava ceremony

  • Disc golf and croquet

  • Volleyball games with the staff

  • A surprisingly fast waterslide at the kids pool

Koro Sun is also known for world class scuba diving, including hammerhead sharks and manta rays. Rain kept us from diving this trip, so it is one of the biggest reasons we want to return.

Kids Club at Koro Sun: A Highlight for Families

The Kids Club at Koro Sun is excellent for younger children. Olivia went almost every day and loved it. Activities included:

  • Crafts

  • Crab races

  • Frog searching

  • Playground time

  • Swimming

  • Coconut painting

  • Preordered lunches

  • Nap time

The team made her feel safe and loved. They also learned her name right away, which meant a lot to us as parents.

The Rainforest Spa Experience

Koro Sun Resort has a beautiful spa hidden deep in the rainforest. Treatments take place in small huts built near flowing streams and a natural waterfall. The sound alone feels like a meditation session.

We booked a couples massage, and Gianna had her own treatment. Both were so good that she and I returned the next day for another session. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and setting.

The Staff: What Makes Koro Sun Truly Special

The staff at Koro Sun were the heart of our entire experience. They remembered all of our kids names and treated them as if they were part of the family. Every day someone asked how Olivia was enjoying Kids Club or how Jake and Gianna liked the activities. It felt sincere and personal.

This level of hospitality is one of the reasons we would return.

Honest Things You Should Know Before Booking

Here are a few things to be aware of so that you know exactly what to expect:

  • The region is full of tropical vegetation, so bring bug spray.

  • November is rainy season in Savusavu. Expect heavy rain at times.

  • The overwater villas are rustic and charming, not ultra luxury.

  • Some meals require preordering during breakfast.

  • Fiji time is slower than what many Americans are used to.

None of these issues affected our trip negatively, but they are helpful details for first time visitors.

Who Koro Sun Resort Is Perfect For

Koro Sun is a great fit for travelers who want:

  • A cultural Fijian experience

  • Family friendly activities

  • Peaceful natural surroundings

  • A mix of adventure and relaxation

  • Rustic overwater accommodations at a lower price point

  • Warm and genuine hospitality

This resort is not the best fit for travelers seeking nightlife or modern high end luxury. It is better suited for those who value nature, culture and connection.

Would We Return to Koro Sun Resort

Yes. We would love to return during the dry season so we can finally scuba dive the reefs that Savusavu is famous for. Our time at Koro Sun was meaningful, cultural and filled with adventure. It is a resort we would recommend to families and couples who want something deeper than a traditional beach vacation.
